Walter Sullivan

Walter Sullivan (January 18, 1918 – March 19, 1996) was a celebrated journalist as well as author. He spent a majority of his career as a science writer for the New York Times, working as a foreign correspondent for The Times in China, Korea and Berlin.  He became science news editor in 1962 and was awarded the inaugural Walter Sullivan Award for Excellence in Science Journalism of the American Geophysical Union in 1989. The award in his name is presented to a journalist for a feature story of Earth and space sciences accessible and interesting to the general public.
